Greetings all!
Google Chrome beta has been released today, it is google's very own browser.
Download Google Chrome
Naturally, being the biggest google fanboy in existence, I had to download it within minutes of it being released.
My first impression was that it was very sleek and dynamic, offering all the features a browser should have, all condensed into a sleek, simple interface. The advanced features are not far off, however, being only a few clicks away.
Looking at the stats, its features are incredible, each task, javascript, flash, html, etc. Has its own process, as does each tab, so if one crashes, the browser still lives.
I tested the browser in ACID2 and ACID3 tests, it passed ACID2 flawlessly, and reached 79 on the ACID3 test. In short, its fairly standards compliant.
That being said, there are a few obvious bugs. Mostly with textareas. I can not copy-paste as usual in them, and while it has a spell checker, it is rendered useless as I can not right click on the word to get the proper spelling. I think this is mostly stemmed from the fact that a right-click removes any highlight I had at the moment. A quick test showed that the error was only apparent in textareas, not textboxes or standard text.
My rating: 10/10 for ingenuity, 9/10 for appearance, 7.9/10 for standards compliance, ?/10 for security, as I have not tested basic exploits on it yet, nor read of any.
In other news, I renamed the Music section to Media because I added a video search. I also HUGELY improved the search query under the hood, bringing the effectiveness up ~600%
I also upgraded the LongBox slightly, making it more usable and lower profile.
Peace
